Once every hour, beginning at 10 minutes before the hour and lasting 10 minutes, some of the pools are restricted to adults only. This period is known as "Adult Swim". During this period all kids under the age of 18 must exit the pool completely (no sitting on the steps or edge of the pool with legs, arms, etc. in the water). This 10 minute break is done to ensure that children take a rest period once an hour to prevent exhaustion and exposure, to make sure they use the restroom (exclusive of the pool), put on sunscreen, get drinks/food, and other activities that they would not normally do if the pool remained open to them. It also allows the adults a period in which to swim without the kids dominating the pool. And, it gives the lifeguards a little break in the action, although at least one lifeguard is to remain on duty at all times that the pool is open.
During this 10-minute period children should not be sitting within 3 feet of the big pool - PLEASE NO FEET DANGLING IN THE WATER! The baby pool remains open during adult swim for children 5 and under. |
