History of Copperfield
With the intent of developing a mini "new town", Friendswood Development Company acquired 1796 acres of land in Northwest Harris County from the Gus Wortham estate in 1977.  Development was underway and the first sections were completed in 1978/1979.  New homes were soon built and our first residents moved in.  In 1989 Friendswood acquired an additional 260 acres of land.  Development by Friendswood continued through the mid 1990's at which time they completed their work.  However, development in Copperfield did not cease, Standard Pacific of Texas began work on a new residential neighborhood, Copperfield Place Village, on the east side of Highway 6.  This development was completed in 2003 and we're happy to say that the "town" is now complete.

Much thought went into the buidling of this community so that it would be both beautiful and functional.  Copperfield is comprised of seven villages, each with its own pool(s), parks and playgrounds.  Residents can also enjoy the 10-acre community park, which is equipped with picnic facilities, playgrounds, baseball fields, an exercise/running track, a covered pavilion and a
Community Center, including an activity room available for use by property owners.

The cooperation over the years between the Developers, the residents and Cypress-Fairbanks ISD has also helped to bring four elementary schools and one middle school into the neighborhood and another middle school and two high schools just minutes away.

While life is tranquil within the villages, there is close access to numerous churches, shopping centers, shops, restaurants and recreational amenities.  One of the major recreational amenities is the Copperfield Racquet & Health Club, a private club established in 1980, open to all, which is located within Copperfield.

Although the number of commercial establishments along Highway 6 have increased over the years, the strict enforcement of the commercial deed restrictions, with required setbacks, landscaping and sign control, has help to maintain not only a uniform look but also has ensured that Copperfield remains a very attractive and well maintained community.
